Philadelphia has been, and remains, rich in resources that provide stellar academic training in
art, as well as opportunities for exhibiting and viewing art. The City has been instrumental in
carving out arenas for women to gain access to the field and to flourish. From painting and
sculpture to illustration and design, Philly has been a hotbed of arts learning and leading on the
national and international stage. We will explore key 19th to 21st century women artists working
in styles ranging from Realism and Pennsylvania Impressionism to contemporary art. Images
will be drawn from museums near and far and short videos will foster new ways of looking at
art.

About the instructor: Lynn Berkowitz, MFA, BFA, with a career in art museums and online learning, has developed an
array of award-winning gallery tours, experiences, and apps aimed at helping audiences of all
ages and abilities engage with a diversity of art ‘isms and approaches.
