Living with Dementia - Simulation and Talk

Monday, March 306:00—8:45 PMCommunity Room, HallAbington Free Library1030 Old York Rd, Abington, PA, 19001

Longtime dementia care training specialist and memory care consult Shanna Huff will lead a program ideal for caregivers, family, and anyone from the general public who wants to learn more about the experience of dementia and how to care for someone living with it.

The program will include an interactive experience that will allow participants to understand, in a first-hand way, some of the challenges individuals living with dementia experience. This will include wearing special glasses and gloves and attempting simple tasks, as well as some sound and visual cues. The simulation will be followed by a discussion and Q&A on practical caregiving tips, resources, and how we can all create more dementia-friendly communities. Shanna will share insights from her book Through Their Eyes and her years of work in the field to discuss both the emotional and practical aspects of dementia care. She will cover strategies for caregivers, ways to maintain dignity in caregiving, and how to offer emotional support to families. Those who do not wish to partake in the simulation are still welcome to attend the program/discussion!
