This program gives children in grades 1-5 an opportunity to practice reading aloud to registered therapy dogs on Zoom. Studies show that children who read aloud to gentle, nonjudgmental listeners, such as therapy dogs, will feel more confident about their reading skills.

During this session each child will select a dog and be given time to read to them and their handler in a Zoom breakout room. Children may read from books that they have at home or from materials borrowed from a library. All breakout rooms are supervised by an Abington Free Library staff member, while all participating dogs are actively registered with therapy dog organizations.
