Doggone Good Readers: Grades 1-5

Saturday, April 110:45—11:15 AMCommunity Room, Entire RoomAbington Free Library1030 Old York Rd, Abington, PA, 19001

This program gives children in grades 1-5 an opportunity to practice reading aloud to registered therapy dogs. Studies show that children who read aloud to gentle, non-judgmental listeners, such as therapy dogs, feel more confident about their reading skills.

Up to seven dogs will be available as Doggone Good Listeners during each Saturday program. Children must sign up in advance for ONE of the following time slots--10:00-10:30 or 10:45-11:15--on each scheduled date. During this session each child will be assigned to a dog and given time to read to them and their handler. If demand for the session is high, two children may be assigned to the same dog to allow more readers to participate. Children may read from books that they have at home or from a selection of books provided by the library. All sessions are supervised by an Abington Free Library staff member.

There are no longer enough available spaces for further registration for this event.
